On February 22, 2018, the American Conference Institute (“ACI”), one of the leading organizations on educating the insurance industry, conducted its annual National Advanced Forum on Litigating Disability Insurance Claims. Alicia Paulino-Grisham was again invited to participate as a Speaker.

Ms. Paulino-Grisham’s presentation was titled “Strategies for Utilizing Medical Exams in Claims Evaluations.” Attorney Paulino-Grisham addressed the legal rights and obligations of claimants and insurers with regard to insurance carrier required medical examinations and evaluations during a disability insurance claim evaluation. During her presentation, Attorney Paulino-Grisham discussed the various disability insurance policy provisions and state laws pertaining to insurer required examinations, provided a detailed analysis of the different approaches taken by courts in applying insurance policy provisions, and explored best practices for claimants’ attorneys when insurance companies demand that their clients attend an examination. It was a thorough, candid, and interactive discussion of the rights and responsibilities of claimants in both ERISA governed and individual disability insurance policy claims.

As always, Ms. Paulino-Grisham was honored to be invited to speak at ACI and enjoyed the presentations and exchange of ideas with various colleagues in the disability insurance industry. We look forward to many more years of participating with ACI.
